Wrist weights:

Wrist weights are available in many different shapes and sizes. Most wrist weights weigh between one to five pounds and no more. Most people who use wrist weights are looking to add an additional challenge to there work out. Whether a person is weight training, doing aerobic exercise, or even yoga positions, wrist weights can add just the amount of challenge a person may be looking for.

Wrist weights can be found in many various stores on line as well as in almost all major sports stores. Though most wrist weights are basically the same (a weight a person attaches and wears around their wrist) there are a few variations in the way they are made, the material they are made out of, and the way the weights are placed.

Some wrist weights are going to come with the weights sewn into them. This would be a persons basic wrist weight. These wrist weights are generally found weighing between one to five pounds. For most people interested in adding an extra challenge to their work out routine, and choosing to do so, this weight, though small it may seem is going to require a lot of extra strength and will probably be just what that person is looking for. For example someone doing aerobics in a gym (or at home), which usually requires the use of a step of some sort, are going to find it a lot harder to step up and lift there arms to their sides with a weight on, than they would otherwise.

There is another option though if someone doesn’t wish to purchase a wrist weight in each different weight that person can purchase what is called an, “adjustable wrist weight.” The difference between an adjustable wrist weight and a basic wrist weight is that an adjustable wrist weight has pockets containing medal or weighted jelly inserts that can be added or removed. By adding or removing the inserts a person may adjust the weights to their personal needs without having to purchase more than one wrist weight.

Another option in the way that wrist weights are made is the material they are made out of. Most people who use wrist weights use them to work out and do not wear long sleeved clothing when doing so. Thus it will be important for the person choosing the wrist weight to choose one that will not irritate their skin or cause abrasions. A person working out needs to be able to focus on the work out they have chosen and not the arm pain their wrist weights are causing them.

The material is also important though because there are some materials that are flexible and some that are not.A person doing a lot of arm exercises will most likely being using there hands a lot and will need the use of their wrists. Because of that need they will want to find a material that is going to move with them and not hinder their wrist movements. Flexibility also allows the weight to shape more easily and accurately to each individuals wrist shape and wrist size.

Most wrist weights are tightened with a heavy duty Velcro strap allowing for additional flexibility and adjustment.

Wrist weights are a great way to add a challenge to a persons work out, whether in the gym using the cardio machines are participating in classes, or at home using work out routines, or outside walking, jogging or bicycling. Often times walkers are seen with wrist weights so as to add an arm exercise into their aerobic exercise, thus targeting their upper body (their arms), and their lower body (their legs), while also burning calories.
