You’ve finally done it.You’ve put aside enough money in your savings account to buy a few stocks. And now you’ve finally worked up the courage to put your money out on the market and actually purchase some stocks. You’re going to be an investor.Congratulations are in order! You did it!But now that you’ve worked up the courage to invest and you’ve done some research to find out which stocks you’d like to purchase first, your nerves have calmed down and you’re feeling good about your financial situation. And you may be forgetting that you still need to study your stocks after you buy them.
“But why?” you ask innocently.
Well, there are many reasons to continue to study your stocks after you buy them. The purpose of this article is to explain a few of the reasons why it is important for most people to study your stocks so that you can remain a happy and well-informed investor.
One of the first reasons that it is important to study your stocks after you buy them is that it is your money that you’re investing, and you don’t want anything bad to happen to your investment. You should at least be up to date on what the company you’ve invested in is doing: the kinds of things they’re producing, the general welfare of their company, what kind of profit they’re turning out, etc. This is not to say you should obsess over it.It is quite to the contrary. But you should know if the company you have invested in is on an increasing path or a decreasing path.
Another reason you want to study your stocks after you buy them is that the stock market is always changing.A stock that was a great and wise investment the day you bought it may plummet to next to nothing 3 weeks later.Or a stock that looked like a dreadfully bad investment may suddenly turn around and reap great profits. You just never really know.Unless, of course, you’ve been studying your stocks.
If you’re studying your stocks, the chances of your stock crashing without your knowledge are slim. You will know what’s going on with your stock and consequently be able to buy more stock (if it’s looking good) or sell your stock (if your stock is looking down). You will also be more aware of what’s happening with the stocks of other companies and be on the look-out for more good investment options. And this will make you happier because you will be earning more profit.
There are, however, a few exceptions to the general suggestion of studying your stock after you buy them.If you’re planning to invest your money long term or you’re the kind of person who doesn’t care to know every move the stock market makes, then you may not want to study your stock on a daily or even weekly basis.Knowing that the stock market is always changing, you may prefer to let your stock sit and “ride” with wherever the ups and downs of the market take them.
This can be beneficial because it’s less stress in your life if your stocks suddenly drop; you don’t mind too much because you know that the market will turn up and you’ll make your money back eventually. This is not to say that you should never study your stocks. You should still research how the market is doing and what the general outlook of your stock is.But you know that can study them less frequently and your money is still secure.
