Who should be eligible for health benefits

As an employer you should already be aware of how expensive it is to provide health insurance for all of your employees. Part of the problem with the cost of health insurance is that people are living unhealthy lives, so they go to the doctor more. With the increased amount of doctor’s visits and serious illnesses insurance companies have to pay out more claims, so they are raising the cost of health insurance premiums. With the increase in the insurance premiums more and more small businesses are not able to afford health insurance for their employees, so they choose not to offer it. Something else that they do is offer health insurance to their employees, but the rates are just so high that none of the employees can afford the insurance.

This dilemma brings up the question about who should be eligible to have health insurance. Some people believe that not everybody is equal when it comes to health insurance because of the different lifestyles people led. Some people even think that people should be entitled to pay different rates for their health insurance because of the lifestyle choices that they make. People think that some pre-existing conditions should be excluded from their health insurance coverage, while others feel that everything should be covered. The whole problem with offering health insurance to people is that everybody is afraid that the rates are going to continue to rise because of the number of claims being paid out. These people think that if you can reduce the number of claims being paid out that the cost of insurance would go down. However, that is not always going to be the case. Only you as an employer can decide which of your employees should be eligible for health benefits, do you exclude some people because of pre-existing conditions or do you take the higher rate so that everybody is covered. Before you make that final decision you need to take a few moments to think it through.

One thing that you need to be aware of as an employee is that everybody should be able to get health benefits. Basically what this means is that no matter who the employee is or what kind of health problems they have they should be able to get health benefits. And the reason for this is that the more people who have health benefits, including vision and dental, the healthier that everybody will be. The reason that people who have health benefits are healthier is because they actually have access to doctors who can provide preventive care. And it has been proven that people who have access to preventive care actually go to the doctor and get immunized on a regular basis against various illnesses, basically people who have access to preventive care tend to use it and stay healthier in general.

But if you are an employer you are probably already aware of the fact that people who have some kind of preexisting condition often can’t get health benefits or they are required to pay higher premiums for the same benefits that everybody else receives. While this might not seem fair to certain people, in fact it isn’t fair if they don’t have access to health benefits, it can also be beneficial if they are charged higher premiums that way everybody else has access to affordable healthcare. Basically we need to focus on the fact that more people need to have access to health benefits, but in order for more people to get those health benefits we need to offer affordable health benefits for them.
