Starting an office workout plan

Since employers have started introducing wellness programs at the office, they are encouraging their employees to find time to improve their health. An office workout plan is a great way to get the entire company to improve their health and drop some excess weight. In order for an office workout plan to be effective, all your staff members need to be on board with it. Exercise is important for everyone at the company, not just the employees that need to slim down. When people have a good exercise routine, they are happier and more satisfied with their life. They normally do not have struggles with depression and many of them are able to live longer and can avoid being placed in a rest home someday.

To get your staff on board with an office workout plan, you need to hold a staff meeting and establish some goals. Have each employee make a list of the things they want to accomplish. Some of the goals you can give as examples may include the following:

  • “I want to lose 15 pounds”
  • “I want to strengthen my lung capacity”
  • “I want to increase my energy and stamina”
  • “I want to get in shape to run a 5K”
  • “I want to keep up with my kids”

Of course everyone’s goals will be different, but these are some of the most-common. You also need to set a date when the office workout plan will end. It is important to let everyone know that you expect them to exercise each day as long as they are employed by your company. Give your employees about 3 months to get in shape and meet their goals. You can then hold a big company event like a 5K run for charity or a company BBQ to recognize all the employees and their fitness goals.

Establishing a good office workout plan also includes eating right. Get rid of the vending machines or fill them up with healthier alternatives like fruits and vegetables. Don’t bring doughnuts to staff meeting, bring nuts and protein bars with water. You can do simple things around the office to encourage your staff members to eat healthier and improve their overall health.

If your companies are struggling with their workout plan, divide them into groups. It is easier to exercise when you have a partner to do it with. The groups can help to encourage everyone to exercise and this way you can motivate some of the lazy employees to get outside and go for a walk. A great way to encourage exercise at the office is to start offering classes before or after work. You may even consider offering classes during the lunch hour. Some companies teach yoga classes twice a week during the middle of the day. Giving your employees a break from their chairs and a chance to stretch their muscles and rejuvenate their body is a great idea. Yoga is the perfect office workout plan because people don’t get overly sweaty when they do it and everyone has a chance to relax and focus on themselves. Their daily stresses and pressures and put aside and they have the opportunity to relax, even if it is for 30 minutes.

When you offer classes and show your commitment to exercise, your employees will see this. This may motivate a lot of your employees to start exercising and improve their health. Others may need some extra motivation which may need to come in the form of cash prizes and other incentives. Try offering a big prize to the individual that loses the most weight or to the people that give-up smoking for good.
