Dealing with eye fatigue can hinder the way an employee works. Proper eye care is important to running an effective business. When employees have eye fatigue, they often experience painful burning and redness of the eyes. Many of them will experience headaches caused from eye fatigue. For some employees, this could force them to take time off work. Here are some simple tips for your employees to consider for proper eye care:
Tip # 1 – Make time to relax your eyes. This means your eyes need to get an adequate amount of rest. Try to get at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Stress and strain on the eyes will place additional pressure on your optic nerves and this can change the flow of blood to the eyes. If you start feeling tired, take a power nap. Listen to what your eyes are telling you and don’t just drink more caffeine to keep them awake.
Tip # 2 – Use eye drops when your eyes are dry. Allergies cause many people to have problems with their eyes. From painful itching and burning to redness and swelling, pollen can cause a lot of problems for people. Using eye drops can help to keep your eyes moist and it can remove the pollen that is stuck to your eye. Blinking your eyes often will help to keep them moist and it actually relaxes the eyes to blink.
Tip # 3 – Close your eyes and place a towel over them. Open your eyes when the towel is on them so they are staring into complete darkness. This actually relaxes the eye and it’s a great way to reduce stress during a hectic workday.
Tip # 4 – Always wear your glasses. If you have a prescription, make sure you wear your glasses or contacts each day. Each time you go outside into the sunlight, make sure you put on sunglasses. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays emitted by the sun. Do not look directly at the sun, even if you do have glasses. Over time, the suns rays can break down your vision and cause you to go blind.
Tip # 5 – Use anti-glare computer screen and computer vision glasses. The glare emitted from a computer screen can cause eye fatigue. If you don’t take breaks from the computer, your eyes will start to ache and you will get a headache. An anti-glare computer screen and computer vision glasses protect your eyes by absorbing most of the glare from the screen. They both have a slight tint to reduce the bright light from the screen.
Tip # 6 – Make sure the lighting is good in your office. The computer screen lights should be dimmer than the office lights. During the day, open up the windows to allow the sunlight to come in. Sunlight will actually lift-up your spirits and make the workday go by faster.
Tip # 7 -Re-paint the office. Off-white walls are the way to go for offices. The off-white actually absorbs the glare from lights and computer screens and reduces the tension placed on the eyes. Always use a matte finish on the walls because it absorbs more light than glossy finishes.
Tip # 8 – Eat well. Fruits and vegetables really can improve your vision. Eating a balanced diet can go a long way toward impacting your health. Replace the sugary energy drinks with water and fruit juice. Take out the potato chips and add some carrots and celery to your diet. Try to eat foods that contain lots of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for your eyes.
