What you eat in a cholesterol diet is based around low-fat and low-cholesterol foods. Its aim is to reduce overall dietary fat, in particular saturated fats, decrease cholesterol, reduce sodium intake, increase the amount of fiber and complex carbohydrates you are taking in and to help reduce calorie intake if you are overweight.
When it comes to starches, breads and cereals there are many things to avoid. These include: butter or cheese rolls and breads, croutons, commercial biscuits, commercial muffins, commercial pancakes, commercial sweet rolls, commercial pastries, commercial croissants, commercial donuts, and commercial pop overs.
You are also supposed to avoid store bought mixes with saturated fats including coconut, palm oils, and hydrogenated fats. Avoid soft flour made with lard, shortening, hydrogenated fats, coconut, palm oil, food prepared with whole eggs, cream and cheese sauces, canned or boxed noodle and macaroni dishes and canned spaghetti dishes.
This is just the beginning of the list and that is only for starches, breads and cereals. For meats you are supposed to avoid corned beef, regular pastrami, mutton, ham, Canadian bacon, luncheon meats, short ribs, spareribs, bacon, sausage, frankfurters, canned meats, scrapple, and sandwich spreads.
Avoid liver, brain, kidney, heart, tripe, sweetbreads, chitlins (pig intestines), gizzards, pork maw (stomach), all other organ meats. I don’t know why you would want those . . . but you should still avoid them. Just like the starches list, this is still just the beginning.
For fruits and vegetables you are supposed to avoid regular tomato sauce and puree, spaghetti sauce, creamed, breaded, or deep-fat fried vegetables, vegetables in sauces, regular tomato and vegetable juices, canned or frozen packed in heavy syrup, sweetened dried fruits, coconut, fried fruit snack chips
There is also a list for fats and a list for miscellaneous things. All of the things that are to be avoided will help you cholesterol decrease and that is very necessary if you have high cholesterol.
It may seem like a ton of stuff but do you not think that it is worth it. Sure you have to avoid all those things, but would you not rather be sure of life and health than to eat whatever you want?
Once you are on this diet it is important to stick with it. Even if your cholesterol drops, that does not mean that you can return to your normal diet. It may even be more important to stick to the diet than before.
Your cholesterol could go back up. Besides that it is not good for you body to jump from diet to diet. If you are going to be on this diet, be on it for reals. Do not even do in a lax way. You have to really do it.
There is one woman who has very high cholesterol and knows she needs to take care of it. She has done many diets and things and it has helped. The problem is that each diet she tries, she only last maybe a week or two on, sometimes more, and then she gives up.
She likes her old way of eating so she will just go back to it. This kind of approach will be very bad for you and you want to avoid it. If you are going to do it, put your whole heart into it. Think of the consequences if you do not do it and try your hardest keep yourself in the right mind set so that you will keep going.
If you do not, you just might be sorry later. What do you think would be running through your head of you had a heart attack? Of course it would probably be pain but afterwards, would you not wish you had paid the price and been able to avoid it?
